We are seeking a skilled Facilities Maintenance Person to join our busy Facilities Department to provide a high standard of maintenance of the school and grounds daily.

Position Objectives:

The primary purpose is to perform skilled work in construction, alteration, repair, and installation of fixtures and structures throughout the College. Maintain structures and furniture in attractive and safe condition.

Key Functions, Accountabilities, Responsibilities and Deliverables:
Maintenance and Repair
  • Select material and hardware and make time to complete task.
  • Fabricate, repair, and replace doors, windows, flooring, ceiling materials, glass, building hardware, screens, plastic laminate, etc.
  • Construct and repair outdoor equipment including playground equipment, fences, gates, seats, benches etc.
  • Detect needed repairs on buildings, grounds, and equipment by following established inspection procedures.
  • Replace, repair, and finish furniture, cabinets, fixtures, woodworks, etc.
  • Received and complete work orders.
  • Maintain accurate records on material and labour used.
  • Maintain inventory of College-owned tools, equipment, and materials.
  • Inspect jobs upon completion and ensure areas are clean and removed scrapes and materials as needed.
  • Work with Property Services Manager to complete projects.
  • Respond to emergency calls as needed.
Safety Responsibilities 
  • Perform preventive maintenance of tools and equipment.
  • Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures and operation manual.
  • Ensure all equipment is in safe operating condition.
  • Follow established procedures and techniques to safely undertake duties, including walking, lifting, climbing, stooping, standing, bending, kneeling, reaching, and carrying.
  • Correct unsafe conditions in work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor immediately.
  • Ability to withstand a physically demanding role, including 15000+ steps on a daily basis.

 

Other Duties as Assigned
  • Other duties could include working in other areas of the Property Service team during absences or shortage of staff in grounds maintenance.
  • Requires flexibility and understanding that all maintenance staff may be required to perform duties outside their normal area of expertise to meet the mission and goals of the College.
Essential Requirements and Experience
  • 2-3 years’ experience as skilled handyperson.
  • Previous experience in school, age care or similar environment preferred.
  • Relevant experience and skill in the safe and effective use of tool and equipment.
  • Strong safety attitude.
  • Strong customer service and relationship orientation.
  • Strong focus on detail and accuracy.
  • Willingness to assist others where and when required.
  • Well organised and highly capable of multi-tasking.
  • Ability and willingness to interpret and follow instructions and meet the required standards.
  • Experience working cooperatively in a team and autonomously.
  • Willingness to learn new tasks including the use of new equipment.
  • Current drivers’ licence and LR licence or above desirable.
  • Hold statement of attainment of Elevated Work Platform.
  • Trade qualification highly regarded.
  • Experience in a broad range of handyperson/carpentry skills.
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Innovative and practical approach to maintenance problem solving.
  • Hold a valid QLD Working with Children Blue Card paid work version.
  • Current White Card.
Personal Skills, Abilities and Equipment used
Special Knowledge/Skills:
  • Knowledge of equipment, materials, methods, practices, and tools used in carpentry.
Abilities:
  • Ability to use hand and power tools.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instruction.
  • Ability to measure and to perform accurate calculations.
  • Ability to work independently. Demonstrate Equipment.
Usage:
  • Power saw, planer, drill press, sander, band saw, table saw, radial arm saw, zero turn mower, air compressor, other power equipment, measuring devices, and light truck or van.
Grounds skills:
  • Ensuring all grounds, lawns, sporting fields, gardens and hardscapes are maintained to the highest standards throughout the College.
Desirable
  • First Aid Certificate.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • WHS qualifications and/or experience and an understanding of the legislative requirements.
