Position Objectives

The role of the Payroll Specialist is to provide accurate and timely processing of payroll for all College, Early Learning Centre and Outside School Hours Care employees. This role is responsible for maintaining compliance with all relevant legislations, Enterprise Bargain Agreements, award provisions and College policies.

Key Functions, Accountabilities, Responsibilities and Deliverables:
  • Payroll Processing: Manage end-to-end payroll for all staff, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with internal policies and external regulations.
  • Employee Data Management: Maintain accurate records of employee payroll details, including contracts, entitlements, and leave balances.
  • Payroll Adjustments: Administer changes such as new hires, terminations, promotions, salary packaging, and other adjustments.
  • Compliance: Ensure adherence to relevant laws, Enterprise Bargain Agreements, awards, and superannuation regulations, including updates on legislative changes.
  • Payroll Reporting: Prepare and present payroll-related budget reports, including monthly variance analysis, cost projections, trend insights and areas of concern.
  • Statutory Reporting: Generate and submit accurate statutory reports, including Single Touch Payroll (STP), PAYG, superannuation contributions, and other regulatory filings.
  • System Maintenance: Maintain and optimise payroll systems, identifying opportunities for efficiency and process improvements.
  • Internal Audits: Conduct regular audits of payroll data to maintain accuracy and compliance with internal controls and audit requirements.
  • Staff Support: Act as the primary contact for payroll-related queries, providing prompt and professional assistance to staff.
  • Training and Guidance: Educate staff on payroll policies, procedures, and entitlements to ensure understanding and compliance.
  • Collaboration: Liaise with People & Culture and Finance teams to align payroll activities with organisational objectives and support budget preparation.
  • Confidentiality and Integrity: Safeguard the confidentiality and integrity of payroll data, ensuring accurate and secure processing and reporting.
Essential
  • Relevant qualification in payroll, accounting, or finance and proven experience in end-to-end payroll processing.
  • Proficiency in payroll systems and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Strong understanding of Australian payroll legislation, including awards, taxation, and superannuation.
  • Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage deadlines while ensuring accuracy.
  • High ethical standards, confidentiality, and professionalism in handling payroll data.
  • Working With Children clearance.
Desirable
  • Experience using TASS software is advantageous but not essential.
  • Prior work experience in education or a public sector environment.
Specific Requirements    
  • Possession of a current Positive Notice Blue Card for Child Related Employment issued by Blue Card Services
  • Must satisfy all visa requirements for working in Australia
